Dr. Emese Kalnoki-Kis is a plastic surgeon specializing in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery and in body contouring procedures, especially those associated with massive weight loss. She completed fellowship training in these fields with Dr. Dennis Hammond, an internationally recognized breast reconstructive and body-contouring surgeon. Dr. Kalnoki-Kis gained expertise in performing unique surgical procedures, such as the SPAIR technique developed by Dr. Hammond for breast reduction, which minimizes scarring on the breast by over half as compared to traditional techniques. She is proficient in performing breast reconstructions after mastectomy using complex procedures such as TRAM flaps, latissimus dorsi flaps, and implant reconstructions.
Dr. Kalnoki-Kis graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Chicago, while also completing a minor in Egyptology. She obtained a Master of Science degree in Biology before going on to study medicine at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in her home state of Ohio. Dr. Kalnoki-Kis completed five years of general surgery training at Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency in Phoenix, Arizona, followed by two years of plastic surgery training at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. She went on to do a specialty fellowship in Grand Rapids, MI with Dr. Dennis Hammond, a highly competitive and sought-after position.
Dr. Kalnoki-Kis is also a talented painter. Her artistic ability refines her aesthetic vision and complements her work as a plastic surgeon. "Painting trains my eye to accurately see forms and shapes, and disciplines my hands to re-create them on my canvas. The same is true in surgery – my eyes and my hands work in concert to create a final, beautiful shape."
